I used to have this excuse of “being busy” when I could not do something I should do — execute an idea, finish a blog post, clean up codes, quality-analyse a project module. Of late, I realize that I’m “not busy” but plain lazy. I’ve been pretty lazy not to write about NSFW.in when many people have already noticed the idea.
I had the idea of NSFW for quite a while after seeing a service and after being embarrassed in front of my team when a friend send me a link (through TinyURL), “Hey, look at this. This is really funny!” Well, the link turn out to be some animating GIF which was a little way beyond funny and bordering on the lines of being a-bit-of-porn!
I never did anything besides booking the domain. Few weeks back, Anirudh IM-ed me that he is kinda free before his summer-intern and ask me if I’ve anything in PHP that can be done quick. So, I gave him NSFW and told him to make it real simple. By evening, he was done with - NSFW.in.
Currently, NSFW allows you to send a shortened URL which are Not-Safe-For-Work with a warning that the content/link outgoing onwards is NOT-SAFE-FOR-WORK. That’s it. Either you go ahead or not is up-to you.
Besides the currently available simple solution, Anirudh is already working on making it better, more efficient. Some of the upcoming features are (however, no promise that they’ll not be scrapped)
- A Restful URL structure: You can add nsfw.in/go/somewhere.com and it’ll display an nsfw warning.
- Add a javascript file to your website, and add rel=”nsfw” to all your links to make it redirect through nsfw.in.
- Display URL of the website and fetch title and thumbnail on demand.
- API for developers to create and fetch nsfw.in links.
Thanks to Amit Agarwal for picking it up and to LifeHacker and DownloadSquad for noticing it.
Why not try NSFW.in and see how you can use it?
